Nissan Begins Transforming Gas Stations With EV quick Chargers

Whether you live in Japan, England, or the United States, there's on green vehicle that's taking off like no other. We here at Passport Nissan are, of course, talking about the Nissan LEAF. As the LEAF heads into its 2012 model year, Nissan has already confirmed that it will be available in more states, and they're also taking other steps to ensure that the EV remains a popular choice around the world.

Take for instance the fact that Nissan fitting many European gas stations with EV quick chargers. This is a move that benefits the consumer, while also actively encouraging them to invest in an EV. Quick chargers help to alleviate some of the pain that is felt from having to charge an EV rather than simply filling it up with gas.

In total, the company is giving away 400 quick chargers to be strategically placed around Europe. The goal is, of course, to make EV driving more mainstream in the minds of drivers. As they see more EV quick-charging stations popping up around them, the idea won't seem as foreign.

"With a significant number of (quick chargers) available across Europe, EV owners will be able to recharge quickly no matter where they go. We believe this is essential for the mass adoption of EVs," explains Pierre Loing, VP, Nissan Product Planning.1

Just how quickly do these "quick chargers" get the job done? In their current form, they take about 30 minutes to charge 80 percent of the battery's capacity. Of course, when you consider the fact that the LEAF boasts an amazing equivalent mpg rating of 73 miles per gallon, that statistic is pretty solid, as you won't have to charge it up very much.
