Nissan Gives Gamers a Shot at Driving a Real Racecar

Whoever said that playing video games is a waste of time obviously never watched GT Academy USA. This hot, new reality shot is the product of the combined efforts of Nissan North America and Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC, and it features 16 contestants who have mastered the art of playing Gran Turismo 5, a video game on the Sony Playstation 3.

The ultimate prize up for grabs in the competition is what has everyone here at Passport Nissan and viewers around the world talking. The winner will be given the chance to get behind the wheel of a real racecar and embark on a new career as a Nissan-sponsored racecar driver. That's right, the aim of the show is to test just how well their gaming skills translate to real-time on the track by taking the finalists to an intensive seven-day racing academy at the world-renowned Silverstone Racing Complex.

The show began with a large-scale Gran Turismo 5 tournament in Florida, which attracted upwards of 54,000 gamers. After battling it out, the top 16 players began translating those controller moves into real-life driving skills. At the end of it all a "Season 1" champion was crowned, and the GT Academy USA was officially born.

The GT Academy USA premiered on SPEED recently, and judging from the fact that the winner was known as the "Season 1" champion, we here at 5000 Auth Way Marlow Heights, MD 20746 are inclined to think that there will be at least one more season and possibly more if the show fares well with audiences.

The third and final phase of production for Nissan North America's new reality TV show involved creating a  five-part series which started airing on SPEED, last week. The final show of the series promises to reveal the GT Academy USA winner, who has earned a place among the European GT Academy racers and embark on a career as a professional, Nissan-sponsored racecar driver.
