Nissan has developed a new way to use robots to make car parts out of sheet steel, a breakthrough that could make replacement parts for discontinued models more widely available for customers.
Nissan hopes to commercialize the proprietary technique, known as dual-sided dieless forming. The technique involves two synchronized robots working from opposite sides of a steel sheet, using diamond-coated tools to gradually shape the steel.
Thanks to its flexible production, short lead times and minimal upfront costs, the new technique could make it commercially viable to produce and sell a wide variety of after-service and replacement parts in small volumes for cars that Nissan no longer makes. This was previously not possible due to the high upfront costs and long lead times to develop and make dies for stamped parts.

Hey parents, your car seat has an expiration date
September is National Child Passenger Safety Awareness Month, and Nissan has 10 child passenger safety tips for drivers transporting little loved ones.
Nissan safety engineers spend thousands of hours evaluating child safety seats by installing them in the rear seats of current Nissan and INFINITI vehicles. The result is the Snug Kids Child Safety Seat Fit Guide, which helps parents confidently select a child restraint system that best fits their vehicle.
“Passenger safety is at the core of everything we do at Nissan. Our Snug Kids® team of certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians performs more than 6,400 car seat checks in our vehicles each year to help ensure a proper fit,” said Brandon Sanders, Nissan product safety engineer.

Nissan celebrates ‘National Video Games Day’ with concept esports gaming chair sketches inspired by the Armada SUV, GT-R NISMO sportscar and all-electric Nissan LEAF.
With video gaming and esports now some of the fastest-growing activities on the planet, Nissan has invested in the trend. Earlier this year, the automaker inked partnerships with two of the most popular gaming teams in the world, Faze Clan and OpTic Gaming.
As makers of the Zero Gravity Seat found on many Nissan vehicles, Nissan applied model-specific technologies and conveniences into the three whimsical chair concepts.
Esports players spend hours perfecting their skills, and gaming rigs are an essential part of each player’s identity. However, esports players often have to choose between aesthetics and comfort – but Nissan’s chairs could offer both. With decades of experience in seating design and comfort, Nissan’s three conceptual designs are sure to pique the interest of gamers across the globe.

Potential issues posed by interior car temperatures are still a danger well into the fall, and Nissan hopes its simple, yet clever, Rear Door Alert (RDA)1 technology may help reduce risks.
Even with outside temperatures in the 60s, the interior of a car can heat to dangerous levels quickly.
Nissan vehicles with RDA
Since 2019 model year, RDA is standard on the Nissan Altima, Armada, LEAF, Murano, Maxima, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport (2019.5) and TITAN (King Cab and Crew Cab). For the 2020 model year, it also is available on the all-new subcompact Versa (standard on SV and SR trim levels).
How RDA works
The system monitors when a rear door is opened and closed before and after the vehicle is in motion. If a rear door was used before a trip but was not opened after the vehicle is parked, the system reminds the driver. Once the vehicle is in park, the system will first display a notification in the instrument panel. If the driver exits the vehicle and does not open a rear door, the system progresses to distinctive chirps of the horn.
The RDA system is easy to configure and can be temporarily, or permanently, turned on through a menu in the cluster display or through a separate RDA switch, depending on the model.
