Nissan LEAF helps to power company’s North American facilities with new charging technology

Imagine a technology that could help companies save on their electric utility costs by simply using energy already stored in electric vehicles (EVs). Working with Fermata Energy, a vehicle-to-grid systems company, Nissan North America is launching a new pilot program under the Nissan Energy Share initiative, which leverages bi‑directional EV charging technology to partially power its North American headquarters in Franklin, TN, and its design center in San Diego, CA. As the name implies, bi-directional charging technology means not only charging the Nissan LEAF, but also pulling energy stored in the LEAF's battery pack to partially power external electrical loads, such as buildings and homes. "As the only vehicle on the market utilizing bi-directional charging, the Nissan LEAF proves exceptionally useful while on the road and also while parked," said Brian Maragno, Director, EV Sales and Marketing, Nissan North America. "As a pioneer in the EV space, we're thrilled to continue to show new, meaningful technologies that leverage the LEAF's growing capabilities." more Ideal for companies with fleet vehicles, the Nissan Energy Share pilot program will continuously monitor a building's electrical loads, looking for opportunities to periodically draw on the LEAF's "lower-cost energy" to provide power to the building during more expensive high-demand periods. This constant monitoring, called demand-charge management, could result in significant electricity savings and could offer the secondary benefit of reducing the burden of peak loads on local utilities. The Nissan Energy Share pilot program using Nissan LEAFs will serve as a test of both technology and business viability as Nissan and Fermata Energy investigate the outcome for possible commercialization. Nissan also has a number of other "second-life battery" initiatives for Nissan LEAF batteries, including installing second-life LEAF batteries at its North American facilities along with investigating new recycling methods for lithium ion batteries. Leading the industry, Nissan has also received certification for second-life LEAF batteries to be used in stationary energy storage. Under the global plan, called Nissan Energy, owners of Nissan's electric vehicles will be able to easily connect their cars with energy systems to charge their batteries, power homes and businesses or feed energy back to power grids. The company will also develop new ways to reuse electric car batteries. Nissan has already begun programs in the U.S., Japan and Europe aimed at creating an "ecosystem" around its range of electric vehicles, including the Nissan LEAF, the world's best-selling electric car. Nissan Energy brings these initiatives together as part of the company's Nissan Intelligent Mobility strategy. "Nissan Energy will enable our customers to use their electric cars for much more than just driving – now they can be used in nearly every aspect of the customer's lives," said Executive Vice President Daniele Schillaci, Nissan's global head of marketing and sales. "Our Nissan Intelligent Mobility vision calls for changing how cars are integrated with society, and Nissan Energy turns that vision into reality." Nissan Energy will establish new standards for connecting vehicles to energy systems through three key initiatives: Nissan Energy Supply, Nissan Energy Share, and Nissan Energy Storage.

2019 Nissan Murano features bold new V-motion design, available Nissan Safety Shield 360 technology, enhanced premium content

The new 2019 Nissan Murano made its world debut today at the Los Angeles Auto Show, offering an early look at the redesigned exterior and refreshed interior prior to reaching Nissan U.S. showrooms in December 2018. "The first-generation Nissan Murano had a profound impact on the SUV market when it was introduced in 2003. As a pioneer of the CUV trend, it offered forward-looking design sensibility that combined an elegant style with premium features – without a luxury price tag," said Dan Mohnke, senior vice president, Sales & Marketing and Operations, Nissan Division U.S., Nissan North America, Inc. The revisions to the popular third-generation Murano's exterior add a more pronounced front V-motion grille, redesigned LED headlights and taillights, new LED fog lights, new 18-inch and 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheel designs and three fresh new exterior colors – Sunset Drift Chromaflair, Mocha Almond Pearl and Deep Blue Pearl. more Enhancements to the luxurious Murano interior are led by new semi-aniline leather-appointed seats with diamond-quilted inserts and contrasting micro-piping trim for the seats, door armrests and center console lid for the Murano Platinum grade. Other changes include three new interior trim finishers: Dark Wood-Tone (Platinum), Light Wood-Tone (S, SV, SL) and Metallic (S, SV, SL). In addition, all 2019 Murano models feature Nissan's innovative Rear Door Alert and Intelligent Driver Alertness. "From the very beginning, Murano has collected award after award for design, dependability, family friendliness, value and especially quality," added Mohnke. "The enhancements for the 2019 model year are designated for one purpose – to ensure Murano remains in a class all by itself." Safety, security and driver assistance technologies have also been revised for 2019 with the availability of Nissan Safety Shield 360, a suite of six advanced active safety and driver-assist technologies designed to help provide 360 degrees of active driver assistance, crash avoidance and pedestrian detection. Safety Shield 360 is a critical part of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, which provides technology in a way that moves people to a better world. Safety Shield 360 includes Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist and Rear Automatic Braking. Safety Shield 360 is standard on Murano Platinum and as part of the SL Technology Package. The 2019 Murano also adds standard 2nd row supplemental side air bags and front passenger supplemental knee air bag. Nissan's innovative Rear Door Alert (RDA) system is also standard on all 2019 Murano grades. "Nissan Safety Shield 360 is now available on five 2019 models. In addition to Murano, it will be offered on the 2019 Altima, Rogue, Rogue Sport and Maxima," said Mohnke. "Moving forward, Safety Shield 360 will be offered as standard equipment on one million new Nissan vehicles sold annually in the U.S. by 2021." Every 2019 Murano comes equipped with a 260-horsepower 3.5-liter DOHC V6 connected to an advanced Xtronic transmission. Murano is available in front-wheel drive or Intelligent All-Wheel Drive. Also standard on all grade levels is NissanConnect® featuring Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, with 8.0-inch color display with multi-touch control. Murano SL and above grades add standard NissanConnect with Navigation, which is revised for 2019 to include Door-to-Door navigation with 3D building graphics and satellite imagery, online POI search and premium traffic information. The refreshed 2019 Nissan Murano will be offered in four well-equipped premium grade levels: S, SV, SL and Platinum. Just two options are available, the SV Premium Package featuring Power Panoramic Moonroof, Intelligent Around View® Monitor, Bose® Premium sound system with 11 high-performance speakers and more; and the SL Technology Package with Safety Shield 360 technology, Traffic Sign Recognition and Power Panoramic Moonroof.

Alliance Ventures invests in Transit to advance multi-modal transportation and Mobility-As-A-Service strategy

Transit’s mobile app aggregates and maps real-time transportation data, functional in more than 175 metropolitan areas around the world. Alliance Ventures, the strategic venture capital arm of Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi, has announced today that it has invested in the latest round of funding in Transit, a multi-modal transportation mobile app company based in Montreal, Canada. This marks the latest technology investment by Alliance Ventures, launched earlier this year to support start-ups, early-stage development and entrepreneurs at the cutting edge of next-generation systems for the automotive industry. more François Dossa, Alliance Global Vice President, Ventures and Open innovation, said: "We are pleased to make a strategic investment in Transit, the leading urban mobility navigation start-up in North America. This investment, which will advance Transit's efforts to make mobility seamless and accessible in cities, fits with the Alliance 2022 strategy to become a leader in robo-vehicle ride-hailing mobility services and a provider of vehicles for public transit use and car-sharing." Sam Vermette, chief executive of Transit, added: "New modes of mobility are entering the market at record speeds. It took decades for car-sharing to catch on. Now, e-bikes and scooters are being rolled out in weeks. This is an exciting time, as Transit helps people navigate their new mobility options. We look forward to working closely with Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi as Transit grows." Transit's mobile app platform enables multi-modal transportation, integrating public transit, ride-hailing, bike-sharing, and scooter-sharing. By combining real-time data from transit agencies with user crowdsourcing, Transit provides the most accurate information. Users enable GO, a function to get real-time notifications for their ride. Transit then tracks the real-time location of the vehicle and notifies the user when to leave for their stop, when to disembark, and sends adjusted ETAs. The investment reflects the capability of Transit in advancing multi-modal transportation as new modes of mobility rapidly enter the market. Transit is seen as a leader in its field, servicing more than 175 metropolitan areas globally.

Exterior and interior modifications include custom body panels and Gloss Burnt Orange body wrap, along with a full roll cage and diamond-pattern upholstery offering a contemporary throwback to the diamond pattern vinyl used in the original 240Z.
