The LEGO Group brings iconic Nissan GT-R NISMO to life in bricks

Since the introduction of the LEGO® wheel in 1962, cars have played a central role in thousands of LEGO sets and in the hearts, minds and play of millions of children across the world. Today, the LEGO Group and Nissan have revealed a model that pays tribute to one of the most iconic Japanese supercars, the Nissan GT-R NISMO. This is the first-ever partnership between LEGO and a Japanese automaker. The LEGO model was revealed by LEGO Group CEO Niels B. Christiansen and Asako Hoshino, executive vice president at Nissan, at the automaker’s global headquarters in Yokohama today. Niels B. Christiansen said: "In addition to offering a wonderful and fun building and play experience, we hope the model will also inspire children to learn more about engineering and how to create things in real life. Just as engineers across decades have improved the design and performance of this car, children build, unbuild and rebuild during play – stimulating and developing crucial skills, such as creativity, resilience, problem-solving and critical thinking. Inspiring them to become the builders of tomorrow is our mission." Asako Hoshino said: "The Nissan GT-R and the LEGO brand are both renowned and loved by fans of all ages throughout the world, and we are honored to be the first-ever Japanese car manufacturer to partner with the LEGO Group. Many of our Nissan customers can trace their automotive passion back to when they built LEGO cars as children. With this partnership, everyone can be a `takumi’ – the specialized craftsmen that build the GT-R. And, it’s the GT-R’s 50th anniversary this year, so what better way to celebrate than to share the GT-R with Nissan and LEGO fans around the world!" more Iconic taillights recreated in bricks The LEGO Speed Champions Nissan GT-R NISMO will be available globally in January 2020. It’s one of the first in the 2020 Speed Champions themed sets, which will be 25% bigger than in previous years. The GT-R NISMO model, made from 298 LEGO elements, captures the authentic and intricate details of the life-size race car in a relatively small LEGO model. This posed an interesting challenge for LEGO design lead Chris Stamp. "In LEGO Speed Champions, we always aim to include new types of racing vehicles. And when we focused on drifting and racing, the record-breaking Nissan GT-R, and especially the new GT-R NISMO, was at the top of our wish list. Authenticity is always our main concern, and we spent a lot of time exploring different building techniques to correctly recreate the taillights, as they are one of the most recognizable details on the car. I am really happy with the end result!" Hiroshi Tamura, Nissan's chief product specialist for the GT-R – known informally as "Mr. GT-R" – gave the scaled-down LEGO version his stamp of approval: "The GT-R has been part of my life since I was 10 years old. Working with the LEGO Group was like awakening my inner 10-year-old self to rediscover what makes the GT-R so special to me. It’s amazing how much the LEGO Group’s attention to detail reminds me of our own craftsmen." Appearing alongside the LEGO Speed Champions Nissan GT-R NISMO at today’s event was the 2020 GT-R NISMO. Available now, the most extreme, most capable GT-R in history features carbon-fiber front and rear bumpers, roof, trunk and rear spoiler; carbon-fiber front fenders with special scalloped vents; new lightweight wheels and new tires; tuned suspension and transmission; Brembo carbon brakes; and new turbochargers.

Nissan redesigns its best-selling Sentra sedan with a sexy new look at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show

On the eve of the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show, Nissan unveiled its all-new 2020 Nissan Sentra celebrating the reinvention of the company's best-selling U.S. model of all time. The 2020 Sentra, which goes on sale in late January, transforms the storied nameplate into a head-turning compact sedan with class-leading interior refinement, standard Safety Shield 360, seamless connectivity and fun-to-drive performance. Sentra completes Nissan's redesigned sedan lineup– following major updates to Versa, Altima, and Maxima over the past two years. 2020 Nissan Sentra "Nissan has a vibrant portfolio of new-generation sedans for customers in the U.S. market," said David Kershaw, division vice president, Nissan Sales & Regional Operations, Nissan North America, Inc. "With more than 6 million Sentra vehicles sold, we believe the all-new Sentra will reach new heights offering refinement and quality, technology and performance not seen before. The lower stance and more athletic design cues from the Maxima sports sedan give Sentra a sexy new look." more Originally introduced for the 1982 model year, the eighth-generation Sentra is built on a new platform that provides greatly improved proportions and stance – about two inches lower and two inches wider than the previous generation. The exterior also incorporates Nissan's latest design language found on its other dramatic sedans, including its signature V-motion grille, thin LED headlamps and floating roof. Sentra also features new wheel designs and a slate of new colors, including three new two-tone color combinations. Inside, the all-new interior of Sentra is more refined and luxurious, creating a high-quality experience for driver and passengers. Extra attention was paid to the smallest of details to improve the perceived and actual quality of the new Sentra. The feel of the steering wheel in the driver's hands, the smooth operation of the dials and switches were carefully crafted to create a premium feel. Available amenities range from quilted, leather-appointed, heated front seats and heated outside mirrors to Nissan's renowned NASA-inspired Zero Gravity seats and Intelligent Around View® Monitor. Infotainment and connectivity features include an available floating 8-inch multi-touch center display and NissanConnect® featuring Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. The 2020 Sentra also features a new, fuel-efficient 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine rated at 149 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque – increases of 20 percent and 16 percent respectively over the previous generation's 1.8-liter engine. The new engine is also projected to offer improved fuel economy. Dynamic performance has been greatly improved through the use of a new independent rear suspension and a new rack electric power steering system. Advanced safety and driver assistance technologies, now available across the entire family of Nissan sedans, include standard Nissan Safety Shield 360, a suite of six advanced driver-assist systems that includes Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Rear Automatic Braking, and High Beam Assist. The new Sentra also offers standard 10 airbags, Rear Door Alert, Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, and Intelligent Driver Alertness. "The all-new Sentra delivers the whole package, with features and value that are hard to ignore," said Kershaw. "It's stylish, confident and connected – a true breakthrough in compact sedans."

Nissan Maxima and Altima rated top performers in IIHS pedestrian crash prevention testing

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) latest ratings for front crash prevention systems in midsize sedans ranked model year 2019 and 2020 Nissan Maxima as 'superior' and model year 2019 and 2020 Nissan Altima as 'advanced.' Nissan believes meaningful technology should not be limited to luxury models and is working diligently to offer features like Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) with Pedestrian Detection across its lineup. "The well-being of those inside our cars is just as important as the well-being of those outside our vehicles," said Rob Warren, director, and chief marketing manager, Nissan North America. "AEB with Pedestrian Detection is announced as standard or available on 10 Nissan vehicles for the 2020 model year, and we're working on expanding the technology further as quickly as possible." more AEB with Pedestrian Detection is standard on the Nissan Maxima for 2020, helping Maxima join just one other non-luxury model earning a superior rating. Not far behind among midsize cars, the Nissan Altima is rated among the advanced vehicles in its class. The IIHS evaluation consists of three tests each at two speeds, resulting in six possible outcomes. The Maxima was the only tested vehicle to altogether avoid the obstacle in all six performed tests. "Carmakers often roll out these kinds of advanced systems in more expensive luxury lines or as expensive options, so the superior performance of the standard systems on the more mainstream Maxima is noteworthy," said IIHS President David Harkey. Nissan's AEB with Pedestrian Detection uses a combination of radar and camera-based technology to track nearby vehicles and approaching pedestrians. If a pedestrian is detected, visual and audible alerts are accompanied by automatic braking, helping to eliminate or significantly reduce the severity of an impact. IIHS launched its pedestrian rating earlier this year, testing 11 luxury and non-luxury small SUVs in pedestrian crash prevention. In that test, the 2019 Nissan Rogue received an advanced rating. For the 2020 model year, Nissan Safety Shield 360 – which includes AEB with Pedestrian Detection – is standard on SV and SL trims, the Nissan Rogue's most popular models. Nissan builds EV test car with twin-motor all-wheel control technology

Nissan today revealed a high-power, twin-motor all- wheel-control test car equipped with new technologies being developed for the company's next generation of EVs. The vehicle, based on the 100% electric Nissan LEAF e+, features an enhanced all-wheel drive system powered by front and rear high-power motors integrated with Nissan- developed chassis control technology. The result is an electric-drive all-wheel-control system that will take the performance of Nissan's electric cars to a new level. "Soon, Nissan will launch a next-generation EV that will be a true breakthrough," said Takao Asami, senior vice president for research and advanced engineering at Nissan. "The new electric-drive four-wheel-control technology now being developed integrates Nissan's electric propulsion and 4WD control technologies with our chassis control technology to achieve a huge leap in acceleration, cornering and braking performance, on par with the latest sports cars." more This exciting EV technology is a key component of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, the company's vision of how vehicles are driven, powered and integrated into society. Powerful, smooth high-output twin-motor drive Using separate front and rear electric motors, the powertrain generates 227 kilowatts of maximum output and 680 Nm of maximum torque. This output is complemented by the ultra-high-precision motor control provided by Nissan's advanced EV technology which offers highly responsive, yet uncommonly smooth, acceleration. Drivers can benefit from the all-wheel-control system on nearly any road condition, heightening driving performance and confidence. Ride comfort for all The test car's precision control of both motors provides unparalleled ride comfort. Vehicle pitch and dive are minimized by adding regenerative rear motor braking to the usual front motor regenerative braking. When slowing down on city streets, for example, this helps keep passengers from being shaken back and forth. This reduces the potential for motion sickness and related discomfort. Similarly, on rough, bumpy roads and when accelerating, motor control is optimized to maintain ride comfort by minimizing irregular movement. Independent brake control for top-level handling In addition to optimizing front and rear torque allocation, the system applies independent brake control at each of the four wheels to maximize the cornering force generated by each tire. This lets drivers enjoy cornering that faithfully follows their intentions with minimal steering. A beacon of Nissan Intelligent Mobility Despite being a test car with technology hidden inside, the bespoke exterior effectively communicates the advanced Nissan Intelligent Mobility technology within, and creates excitement for the new era of Nissan EV technology. Fitted with overfenders and rally style wheels, this test car confirms it's ready to take on the most punishing of road conditions. Inside, the test car sports a 12.3 inch display mounted in the center of the instrument panel that reports, in real-time, information on the vehicle control technology via a polished graphic interface. With the custom display, the driver can better understand vehicle movement, and judge the all-wheel-control technology's performance at a glance. Confidence on any road surface Electric four-wheel-control technology increases driver confidence across a broad range of road conditions. When cornering on snow-covered roads, for example, the vehicle can faithfully trace the driver's intended line thanks to ultra-high-precision motor and brake control. With the confidence to handle such a variety of road surfaces, driving becomes more enjoyable.
