Nissan Rogue’s VC-Turbo engine named to ‘Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems’ list for 2022

The Nissan Rogue's 1.5-liter Variable Compression (VC) Turbo engine is named to "Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems" list for 2022. Standard on all Rogue grades, it delivers enhanced power and best-in-class gas engine fuel economy1 and torque2. Wards has recognized the pinnacle of automotive powertrain engineering since 1995, and Nissan's achievement for 2022 marks the company's 19th trophy in those 28 years. more Winners are evaluated based on several factors including horsepower, torque, noise, fuel economy, comparative specifications and applications of new technology. This year, the judges began testing from a group of 29 all-new or vastly improved engines, by putting them through the paces of daily life – commuting, road trips and running errands. "This engine inspires words that never have been uttered in the same sentence as '3-cyl. engine': very smooth, exceptionally quiet during idle, pleasant to drive in traffic or on the highway," says Judge Drew Winter. "It's a broken record, but what the VC-Turbo is doing inside that engine is remarkable and innovative," says Judge Bob Gritzinger. "Applying the same technology to a small-displacement 3-cyl. takes it to another audience and customer in the best-selling Rogue." Nissan's class-exclusive VC-Turbo engine can seamlessly vary its compression ratio to optimize for increased power output or for greater efficiency, as needed by the driving scenario. A new generation XTRONIC transmission works in tandem with the engine to help deliver improved acceleration feel and reduced fuel consumption.

Nissan Snug Kids® warns of risks with used, expired or counterfeit child safety seats

September is National Child Passenger Safety Awareness Month, and time for caregivers to review the child safety seats their little ones are using. While inflation and other pressures mean many families are looking to save money, purchasing a car seat is not the time to skimp, due to the dangers posed by secondhand or potentially counterfeit seats. "Don't install a used seat, an expired seat, or a seat that's been in a collision, and make sure it was tested according to federal standards," said Robert Sinclair Jr, senior manager of public affairs at AAA. "It's also crucial to make sure you're using a car seat correctly to keep your child safe in a crash. If installed properly, the car seat should not be able to move more than an inch in any direction at the belt path and there should be no slack if you pinch the strap at the child's shoulder," said Sinclair. more Nissan introduced Snug Kids®, an industry-first program, 20 years ago. It is geared specifically toward safety for children in child restraint systems (CRS), commonly referred to as "child safety seats." Not all CRS fit in all vehicles. Nissan safety engineers have spent thousands of hours evaluating hundreds of CRS by installing them in the rear seats of Nissan and INFINITI vehicles. The result is the Snug Kids® Child Safety Seat Fit Guide, which helps parents confidently select a CRS that fits their Nissan or INFINITI while also providing valuable tips on the proper fit of a CRS. "Nissan prioritizes passenger safety for all occupants," said Matthew Gapinski, senior manager, product safety engineering at Nissan. "Our Snug Kids team of certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians works directly with child seat manufacturers to make sure we are checking for a proper fit of their latest seat models in our vehicles." For additional help correctly installing car seats, parents can search a list maintained by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to find certified technicians in their area. "Parents and caregivers also should read their child restraint system's owner's manual and vehicle owner's manual to ensure proper installation and use of car seats and boosters," said Gapinski. "I'm often asked which car seat is the best, and my response is ‘the one that best fits your vehicle and that you can install and use correctly every time.'"

Nissan approves first bi-directional charger for use with Nissan LEAF in the U.S.

As a pioneer in the electric vehicle space, Nissan continuously looks for ways to deliver new, meaningful technologies to EV owners. Today, working with Fermata Energy, a vehicle-to-grid services provider, Nissan has approved the first ever bi-directional charger for use with the Nissan LEAF in the U.S. With Nissan's approval, along with its UL 9741 certification for bi-directional charging systems, the Fermata Energy FE-15 charger has passed key requirements from Nissan, and has been verified to be compatible with the Nissan LEAF. Usage of the approved charger will also not impact the LEAF's battery warranty. more Bi-directional charging technology means not only charging the Nissan LEAF, but also sending energy stored in the vehicle battery back to the building or the grid. The Nissan LEAF is currently the only fully electric passenger vehicle in the US market able to supply energy to the grid, allowing LEAF owners with the Fermata Energy FE-15 bi-directional charger to park their vehicle, plug it in, and save money with their local electric utility as well as reduce the total cost of ownership of the vehicle. Ideal for companies with fleet vehicles, the Fermata Energy Demand Charge Management application, along with the FE-15 charger, continuously monitors a building's electrical loads, and may draw on the Nissan LEAF's energy to provide power to the building during more expensive high-demand periods. In states with utility demand response programs, bi-directional-enabled Nissan LEAF vehicles (MY2013 and later) are able to safely send energy stored in the battery to the grid during peak energy demand times, such as in summer months. To support its long-term vision, Ambition 2030, Nissan continues to explore additional opportunities in the Vehicle-To-Everything (V2X) market, including residential applications, working with leading third-party companies in the space such as dcbel. Interested customers can go to www.fermataenergy.com/fe15-sales for details on the Fermata Energy FE-15 charger today.
