Realizing improved fuel economy with consistent driving performance Idling Stop is a system that automatically stops the engine when the vehicle is brought to a stop at signals and then activates as the car sets off again. Vehicles often keep their engines running even when stopped, but a vehicle with Idling Stop improves fuel economy by turning off the engine. more Technology Functionality The Idling Stop is active when the engine is sufficiently warm and when the vehicle speed has gone over 20km/h. After stepping on the brake and stopping the vehicle, the Idling Stop is activated after around 1 second. While the brake pedal remains pressed down the vehicle continues to be stationary. To move off, the driver removes his or her foot from the brake pedal and in about 0.4 seconds the engine restarts. When the brake is on, the engine can also be restarted by turning the steering wheel, allowing drivers to prepare for moving off quickly when turning or pulling into traffic. For conditions when the vehicle appears to be repeatedly performing parking maneuvers, or when repeatedly stopping and moving off at speeds of under 8km/h in congested traffic, the vehicle assesses the situation and controls the Idling Stop. In this way, the stopping and restarting of the engine will not annoy the driver. Drivers can still use their car audio and navigation systems while the Idling Stop is in operation. The air conditioning automatically switches to ventilation, but when cooling or warming the inside of the car is a priority, the Idling Stop can then be switched off at the press of a button. Technology Configuration In order to eliminate the restraint of pressing down on the pedal when the engine is started, and to ensure the car does not roll back when restarting on a hill, a lock system is used on the CVT sub-transmission. Through this system, it is possible to reduce the action of pressing down before restarting the engine. It also prevents against roll-back down a hill with the use of auxiliary braking (possible on hills with gradients up to 6%). The Idling Stop utilizes a sensor to detect when the engine is being reversed in order to reduce the time for restarting. Ordinarily an engine takes four cycles to start but with the Idling Stop it only takes two cycles. As a result the engine restart time can be reduced to just 0.2 seconds.

With gas prices rising to a national average over $3.34 per gallon for regular unleaded1, and the holiday road trip season here, properly inflated vehicle tires are a must. Nissan's Easy-Fill Tire Alert feature relieves the pressure of worrying about properly inflated tires. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), on average, there are nearly 11,000 tire-related motor vehicle crashes each year and more than 600 people will die in those crashes. Safety is obviously the number one concern when it comes to tire maintenance, but underinflated tires can also cost the consumer money due to reduced fuel economy. The NHTSA says that keeping tires properly inflated can save up to 11 cents per gallon, and can extend a tire's life by 4,700 miles. more In the U.S., Nissan has sold more than 9-million vehicles with Easy-Fill Tire Alert technology - about 36 million tires. The feature allows underinflated tires to be filled to the recommended pressure in about half the time compared to using a traditional tire gauge. "Ensuring your tires are inflated to the correct pressure is one very simple step consumers can take to help make their vehicles safer, especially with the start of holiday road trips," said Selim Hammoud, director, NNA Safety Officer, Nissan North America. "Nissan's Easy-Fill Tire Alert takes the guesswork out of filling tires and makes simple vehicle maintenance less intimidating for the average driver." Standard tire pressure monitoring systems alert drivers when tire pressure is low. However, Nissan's easy-to-use Easy-Fill Tire Alert helps consumers quickly and conveniently fill their tires, at a filling station or in the comfort of their own garage, to the correct pressures every time. This is all done without the need for a handheld pressure device or looking up the correct tire pressure numbers. How it works: • Park the vehicle in a safe location and apply the parking brake • Put the vehicle in park (automatic transmission) and the leave the ignition in the on (accessory mode) position with the engine off • Once air starts filling the tire, the exterior lights begin to flash to indicate Easy-Fill Tire Alert is monitoring the change in air pressure • When the correct tire pressure is reached, the vehicle horn will sound • If the tire is over-inflated, the horn sounds again and the hazard indicators flash three times, signaling the need to release some air In the current lineup, Easy-Fill Tire Alert is available on 13 different nameplates: Versa, Sentra, Altima, Maxima, LEAF, Kicks, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Murano, Pathfinder, Armada, Frontier and TITAN.
