Nissan brand ties for most awards in J.D. Power 2018 Initial Quality Study (IQS)

Nissan topped three vehicle segments and finished in the top three in two others in the 2018 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS). J.D. Power IQS is the industry benchmark for new vehicle quality. This year, the Nissan brand improved by eight problems per hundred vehicles (PP100) to an overall average of just 85 PP100, which was best performance of all non-luxury Japanese brands. The 2018 Nissan Frontier was the top-rated Midsize Pickup for the third consecutive year, while Maxima won Large Car honors with 57 PP100, the second highest score of any vehicle in the study. The popular Nissan Altima took top honors in the competitive Midsize Car segment with a 65 PP100 score, good for sixth among all vehicles in the survey and an 18-point improvement from the 2017 study. The all-new 100-percent electric Nissan LEAF was another bright spot among many for the brand, with a 17-point improvement in initial vehicle quality over the car's previous generation surveyed in 2017. more “Nissan's J.D. Power IQS results for 2018 are encouraging because they reflect customer satisfaction directly from the people who buy and lease our vehicles,” said Mark Swenson, vice president, Total Customer Satisfaction, Nissan North America. “Positive IQS performance is a tribute to the ongoing efforts of Nissan Engineering, R&D, Quality and Manufacturing teams around the world, as well as our many global supplier partners. It is rewarding for us to see positive movement in J.D. Power IQS for three years running.” Nissan's nine PP100 improvement marks the brand's third year of significant improvement in the IQS report. Almost 76,000 purchasers and lessees of new 2018 model-year vehicles were surveyed for 233 potential problems among 33 brands and 240 models from February through May 2018 for this year's J.D. Power IQS report. Nissan's good news went beyond vehicle nameplates. Its massive Smyrna manufacturing plant, the largest production volume assembly plant in North America, was awarded Bronze designation for its System Two (car line) tying for third best in quality performance among North American Manufacturing facilities. System Two assembles the Altima, Maxima and LEAF EV. Adding to the positive manufacturing news; Smyrna System One (SUV line), Canton 2, MS, and Aguascalientes 1, Mexico also scored above the industry average.

Nissan Sustainability 2022 will strengthen environmental, social and governance initiatives as part of midterm strategy

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. launched Nissan Sustainability 2022, a plan to reduce the company's environmental impact, strengthen diversity and inclusion, and enhance governance, in line with the company's midterm plan, Nissan M.O.V.E. to 2022. This is the first time Nissan has announced a comprehensive sustainability plan, which pulls together all aspects of its environmental, social and governance initiatives into a unified approach. more The plan is anchored by the company's ongoing Nissan Green Program, which was launched in FY2001 with a long-term vision toward 2050. Nissan Sustainability 2022 will ensure the company is on track to deliver on these goals as it approaches the halfway point, while also expanding the company's sustainability mindset to include diversity and inclusion, as well as stronger governance. “Nissan Sustainability 2022 is fully aligned with our midterm objectives of delivering steady growth and leading the automotive industry's technology evolution,” said Hitoshi Kawaguchi, Nissan senior vice president and chief sustainability officer. “We believe sustainable mobility will help achieve a world with zero emissions and zero fatalities. Our plan, further enhanced by our efforts to be a truly diverse and inclusive company, will make an important contribution to that effort.” The plan is organized around an environment, social and governance (ESG) framework, criteria commonly used by investors who monitor a company's value creation. Environmental initiatives The fourth generation of the Nissan Green Program will be a key element of the sustainability plan, focused on addressing climate change, resource dependency, air quality and water scarcity. Key targets and initiatives include: • Decreasing CO2 emissions from new vehicles by 40% by FY2022, compared with FY2000 levels, achieved partly by increasing vehicle electrification. Nissan, the market leader in battery electric vehicles, aims for annual sales of 1 million vehicles that are all-electric or have electrified powertrains by the end of FY2022. Nissan will also foster deployment of vehicle-to-everything (V2X) systems globally for improved energy management; • Decreasing CO2 emissions from production and corporate activities by 30% by FY2022, compared with FY2005 levels, achieved partly by NESCO (Nissan Energy Saving Collaboration) activities lead by global experts; • Reducing use of new materials to 70% by FY2022, achieved partly by promoting circular economy of reused and recycled lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles; • Reducing volatile organic compounds in vehicle production processes; and, • Reducing water intake per unit in global production by 21% by FY2022, compared with FY2010. Social initiatives Nissan has long considered driving safety and corporate philanthropy to be the hallmarks of its social initiatives. The new sustainability plan will build on these commitments, while also focusing on diversity and inclusion. Initiatives in these areas include: • Setting the ultimate goal of reducing fatalities involving Nissan vehicles to zero, achieved partly by promoting increased vehicle safety with more autonomous systems such as ProPILOT, to be offered in 20 vehicles in 20 markets by the end of FY2022; and, • Increasing the proportion of female managers to 16% globally, and 13% in Japan by April 1, 2023, partly achieved by providing trainings on diversity and inclusion for all levels of the organization, and proactively implementing remote working and flextime policies to support diverse work styles. Governance initiatives Nissan Sustainability 2022 also includes improving the company's governance through enhanced compliance systems. Nissan has implemented a “three lines of defense” system, ensuring that more consistent compliance management and controls are in place. Further actions include: • Consistent communication on compliance messages in the workplace; • Compliance management system built and monitored by a dedicated team of experts; • Building a function to audit internal control; • Appointing independent, fully dedicated regional compliance officers who will be a key line of defense at the regional level; • Promoting opportunities for employees' voices to be heard and non-compliance issues to be resolved in an effective manner through • Nissan's SpeakUp whistle-blowing system; and, • Enhancing corporate governance with independent directors making up one-third of the board of directors.

2019 Nissan 370Z Coupe features revised model lineup and two new Heritage Edition exterior color treatments

Following major enhancements for the 2018 model year – including a revised exterior featuring dark headlight treatment, dark tinted rear combination lights, a blackout rear lower fascia and redesigned 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheel design – Nissan's iconic 370Z Coupe enters 2019 with two new color themes for the 370Z Heritage Edition, standard auto-dimming rearview mirror with RearView Monitor, and the combining of the previous Touring and Sport Tech trim levels into a new Sport Touring grade. Also in 2018, the 370Z driving experience was enhanced through optimized acceleration and torque profile tuning. Without changing the engine's internal structure or components, engine performance was improved through careful refinement of Accelerator Pedal Opening (APO) and Throttle Valve Opening (TVO) angles. Manual transmission-equipped 370Z models added a motorsports-inspired EXEDY® high-performance clutch. The 370Z Coupe Heritage Edition package, added for 2018, again offers a unique appearance and is now available in three exterior colors. The previous Magnetic Black Heritage Edition (gloss silver graphics and yellow interior trim) is joined by the new Deep Blue Pearl Heritage Edition (black outside mirrors, gloss silver decals, yellow interior trim) and the Pearl White Heritage Edition (black outside mirrors, gloss black decals, yellow interior trim). The previous Chicane Yellow Heritage Edition is no longer offered. Click here to view the entire article.
